Turban Ban In Quebec Sparks Outrage
Surprising but true – turbans are banned from soccer in Quebec. The Quebec Soccer Federation is facing scrutiny for their decision to ban turban-wearing Sikhs from participating.
According to the Federation, the issue is player safety related yet no injuries have been reported thus far. Despite being the only province in Canada with such restrictions, they currently defer to FIFA, the governing body for soccer worldwide, for guidance. Presently, FIFA has issued guidance for the use of the Muslim hijab but not turbans.
What do you think about the ban? Is it discriminatory? Fair for safety reasons? Let us know!
