How Many Clicks Are Your Sponsor Links Getting?

statisticsWhether to provide statistics to current sponsors, to persuade future sponsors to advertise on your page, or just out of curiosity – knowing how many clicks your website sponsor links are accumulating can be a helpful tidbit of information.

Easily track your sponsors’ links with this simple, proper link setup!

1. Create Your Link Code

The general link structure required by the WebWriter® Content Management System is:

<a href=”” onClick=”ga(‘send’, ‘event’, { eventCategory: ‘Link’, eventAction: ‘Demosphere’, eventLabel: ‘Website’});”>

  • Substitute the URL that you would like to track for
  • Replace the eventAction with an indicating keyword.

*Tip: Sponsors may find it helpful to track links for themselves rather than relying on the advertising organization. Demosphere recommends sponsors provide custom URLs via the Google URL builder to help them properly track where each click is coming from.

For example, rather than providing, supply (made using the Google URL builder).

2. Use Javascript

If your organization is working on the most recent version of the WebWriter® CMS platform, the code can be added to a new “Raw Code” content item.

The first step in putting together your raw code is to combine your tracking link with an image. Take the code created above and insert code for the image of your choice:

<img src=”” a href=”” onClick=”ga(‘send’, ‘event’, { eventCategory: ‘Link’, eventAction: ‘Demosphere’, eventLabel: ‘Website’});”>

Swap out the with the URL for the sponsorship image you’d like to track.

Once image URL and tracking code are in place, code needs to be added to make the image a link when clicked:

<a href=”” target=”_blank”><img src=”” a href=”” onClick=”ga(‘send’, ‘event’, { eventCategory: ‘Link’, eventAction: ‘Demosphere’, eventLabel: ‘Website’});”></a>

Make sure the URL ( added in this section matches the URL in the tracking code.

If you’re working on an older version of WebWriter, once the link is complete in Step 1, you’ll need to reach out to the Demosphere Support Team to have your code added to the JavaScript section of your Sponsor Images.

3. Connect Google Analytics

Within your Google Analytics page, track the link in the Events section.

Under the Behavior category find the Events option. Based on your link structure, track the clicks by Event Category, Event Action, or Event Label.

Based on the above link example:

  • Event Category: Link
  • Event Action: Demosphere
  • Event Label: Website
